Anyone here a locksmith? I lost my key to my truck box. I need to get a replacement key.

Or anyone have a link to a site that might be of help? The local Locksmith is way to expensive, $40 an hour labor + parts-1 hour min. And that is if I take it to him, when I called, he said most likely the lock will have to be changed but he will try to cut a key (maybe to get the time up more?).

If I knew where\which type of lock to buy, then I could just do it myself.

That depends where the lock is in the box. Is it separate from the release latch or part of it? Do you know how to pick a lock? Most of the box locks I've seen are easily replaceable from the hardware store.

You locked your keys in it? If so you can use your antenna through the first hole in der the door handle and pop the lock rod up. Take the antenna off and slide it through the hole, then work the rod up, should take about a min.

since he said its for his truck box, I would assume a tool box.

Those locks are usually pretty universal, see if you can pick it first, if you can open just take the lock out and match it up with something from the parts store.

NO, the keys aren't locked in the box, they are lost. Just wondering about replacing the lock. It is a TSC diamond plate box and the lock is in the latch. It looks like this:

Just drill the lock out. Buy a replacement at the hardware store (with keys). They are VERY easy to find and cheap.

It will make a lot of noise (which is why I don't hesitate much about a public forum -- were this silent, I'd tell you not to post it here because any a**hole in the world can read it), but it won't take TOO long. Drill right through all the tumblers.

And $40/hour for a locksmith is VERY good. Though to be honest, you could buy a (heavily) used truck box for less than that.

My Chevy's truck box is very much like that (except it's aluminum color instead of black). I got it at a yard sale for $10 because the owner didn't have keys....
