Not sure if this is actually a problem or not

I have been driving my Crown Vic around for a couple weeks now and need some input... been a while since I had anything with an automatic, let alone as new as a 2000 so maybe it's just me...

We are talking about a 4R70W behind a 4.6. I have noticed the following:

- 1-2 shift seems like it happens too soon (like almost immediately after pulling away from a dead stop under light throttle.)
- 2-1 down shift when slowing down seems to happen too late - like you slow down to ~5mph and accelerate, it stays in 2nd when I'm pretty sure it should have kicked down into 1st.
- 3-4 shift seems like it is kind of sloppy - like the shift itself is not very firm
- trans will shift into 4th at around 35mph in town - might just be feeling the T/C lock up, not sure.

Maybe I am just being paranoid, I dunno. Fluid looks and smells fine but I am going to change it anyway. It does NOT slip in any gear.

Am I correct in assuming that the VSS and TPS are somewhat responsible for the computer determining shift points?

Every AOD/4R70W I've owned/driven has done that to some extent. I was OK with my 86 Mustang shifting like that, but it really bothered me at the inopportune times it did it on my 98 Mountaineer. I think it's just a characteristic of the AOD/4R70W. I got used to it and dealt with it. Sometimes my truck does it too with a 4R55E.

Thanks for the reassurance, that's the consensus I've been getting from everyone. Never driven anything with a 4R70W before so I thought I'd better check.
