I was a very active outdoor type prior to moving to the Chicago area. My last job offered me 4 ten hour workdays... I jumped all over that Idea. I had 3 day weekends each and every week and typically hunted or fished two of those three day weekends a month.

I know in the mitten state at least... the rut is around the corner and the steelhead are filling the river systems gorging on salmon eggs. I can't get over there until the week of Thanksgiving. An out of state licence is a little pricey... so I usually steelhead fish... while the other guys in camp deer hunt.

I'm also an avid fly fisher and fly tier... I love my quiet time at the vice and enjoy creating flies to fool the fish.

So that is my outdoor plans for the next month... anyone planning any hunting or fishing trips this fall?

I hunt at least four times a week during October to February every year. I only hunt deer though. I never got into any small game. My buddy has 40 acres private butted up to 600 acres they lease. Have a house and campers. Very well set up. His father-in-law(which now claims me as another son-in-law) has two camps he lets me hunt for free because I help him throughout the year maintaining his random vehicles. I help both of them plant and what not. I am blessed for what I have access too. I don't fish much anymore but I can go down to my pond and catch catfish, bream, and bass all day long.

I see nothing wrong with trading my services to gain access to hunting land... a place to stay and being adopted into the group is pure bonus. Hunting... at least deer hunting has become more of a rich mans sport when it comes to good grounds. I'm going back to Northern Michigan and will have 10's of thousands of acres of state forest to hunt. Only one guy at the deer camp I'm headed too hunts hard. He has done well the past two years. They put a 4 point rule (one side) in that area and from what I see... It's working.

Are you doing catch and release or what?

I haven't been hunting for a few years. Kinda pricey and the state has it set up so you have to have a mob to effectively get a deer in 3 days. Grandpa has 240 acres which sounds great until you factor in the tenet has about 80 head of cattle on it. Half are terrified of people and stampede when they see you, the other half follow you around wanting fed.

Yeah I caught them chewing on a bag of my squirrel corn so I had to put em down. State of Mississippi a good state to hunt in.
