The 4x4 shop I talked to recommended 1 3/4" od X 3/8" wall DOM but that was for 1 ton GM tie rods not heims. I would think 1/4" wall would be the min to be safe.

Which shop? 3/8 wall is a bit overkill for 1-ton GM stuff. Nothing factory is that thick. 0.25" is what Parts Mike uses for everything and so does WFO in Auburn (Actually 0.219" but same thing). Plenty strong, tear-out strength on 7/8-18 threaded 0.25" wall tubing is ridiculous, only have to worry if running 37"+ tires and hydraulic steering.

Someone on dr recommended .095 wall. Something thicker would be better I guess. Need a 3/4 heim for the inner and want a 7/8 for the outter

He does build bad ass crawlers so that may be why he was saying that thick of DOM. He has a jeep in his parking lot settin on 44's or 40 something's. He drills and taps the DOM to accept the tie rod ends. He said it was $250 to make me a drag link and tie rod. That's way too expensive for me. I'm gonna get the DOM and do it my self.

Why not Rosette weld in a bung and run a heim? Seems like a room of work to drill and tap out the tubing.

Cuz threaded is stronger and faster for a shop to do when you have a lathe and tap already set up for production. For us little guys welding in a bung is faster and cheaper since we can get away with just a welder instead of an expensive tap and lathe setup. Literally takes about 30 seconds to do with the proper machinery.

If he is doing competition fab work for rigs yeah I can see why he suggested 3/8" wall. Overkill is underrated in that case

Getting my tie rod ends and spindle repair kits for my 44 this week! Got the knuckles on and drilled out for the tapered inserts this week and also painted it.

Last chance on the 2000 super cab frame. I'm cutting it up this Saturday and shit canning the 20 gal fuel tank, front D35 and probably a bunch of other stuff. Speak now or it's gonna be gone!!!

Yep makes sense. I'm not building a comp rig but I'll probably buy a tap and do it my self. My buddy has a lathe to bore it out so we got that covered.
