When I bought my truck used several years ago I was offered a ( third party warranty ) from the place I bought it, well I decided to spend the $280.00 for the warranty and I actually had to use it once when my alternator went out and all went well BUT I have since lost all paper work associated with my old warranty and cant remember the name, anyways I was wondering if anybody uses a third party warranty and have you had to use it or did you purchase a warranty then tried to use it and they wouldn't pay up.

I got one when I got my Ranger, it was 100k mileage and no time limit....

Worked fine the first time I used it (although they were a lil confused over the fact that I was changing the radiator myself). But when the balljoints went, the number I had for them was no longer valid and I've been unsuccessful in tracking down their new office... Now I have a whole list of parts that need replaced and I'm going to have to make a point of trying to find them.

I had one when I bought my truck, because I knew it was going to need parts. I found that I could not do the work myself, but no biggie; and the parts they wanted me to put in my truck were from the salvage yard. I got them to pay the price for the savlage yard parts on the new pieces, while I paid the differecne and the labor.

I ended up breaking even for the cost of the wrranty and the difference in price, so I haven't had any warranty since. I just try to buy lifetime warranty parts when I change them.

Dont want to be the downer but when i bought my truck it came with a third party waranty. not long after the check engine light came on and it would run rough. Took it to a couple places to get checked out and none of them would accept the waranty. I did some research and found the company was pretty close to bein a scam. It would take them weeks to process claims, and they would rarely pay for the repairs almost always finding a loop hole.

There probably a few legit ones out there, but do your research first.

have a isuzu in the shop right now that throw a rod through the side of the block and the ppl been paying 30 dollars a month for 2 years now on the warrenty and they claim is denied. when i worked at frieghtliner we'd get ppl with aftermarket rv warrnety and we started to not take the work. the customer would have to pay us then they could get remibser. most places only want to pay 58 a hour for the work when our shop rate is 82 a hour. they would drag there feet paying and we would the vechile till payed and ppl would be pissed but if we didnt get payed before it left it was 75 percent of the time we wouldn't get shit

If you buy an aftermarket warranty go through a wellnamed dealer for it. FOrd Chevy Hyundai, etc. These warranties are offered through the banks and are mostly legit and pretty good. if not pricey, but you can get drivetrain or full coverage.

My mom had one of those aftermarket warranties. It turned out to be a total nightmare. Her transmission blew. She took it to a shop that said yes, they would accept the warranty and replaced the tranny in her jeep. The warranty company denied the claim saying the tranny blew because of off road use because the jeep was 4 wheel drive. My mother never off roaded and the shop even said she didn't. Long story short. She canceled the coverage and had the bank stop all payments to the company and paid the repair out of pocket. That was 2 yrs ago and she still gets letters and calls threatening legal action if she does not pay the past 2 yrs off ( she canceled 2 yrs ago )

I see so many commercials for those stupid US Fidelis extended warranties and I always wondered how the hell they made any money?

i just bought an 05 fx4 ranger from a third party. the small dealership came with a 30 day warrenty but i also bought a 5 year 150000mile warrenty from ford for about a grand. the truck had 98000mile on it so who know what will go soon. im sure ill be glad i bought this in the long run

Don't know much about third party warranties. But my mom's 96 Blazer has had an extended warranty. I think she paid $1,500 extra at the time, but it paid off. New suspension ball joints, ABS recall multiple times, complete A/C rebuild, and other few issues. Now the warranty is over and I am the warranty. Had to do a heater core replacement. Chevy dealer wanted like $1,200, I did the work and parts only costed me $40. Ranger needed a new A/C rebuild, $500 dollars later, and the A/C is colder than before. Shsnana 93 Tempo had an idling problem. Found a vaccum leak and a faulty IAC, costed her about $90 in parts and I got a free soda.

I bought 3rd party warranty when I bought the minivan because I knew that I wanted no part in working on it. got it covered to 200,000 miles and/or 15 years of age. out of the now $7000 I have in parts and labor on that POS since I bought it the warranty has covered Zero dollars and Zero cents......... the warranty cost $900.

When I bought my 85 CJ 7 (my 3rd car that wasn't a project or parts car) it was my first car payment and my mom insisted (and since she co-signed it, she prevailed) that I buy the warranty the dealer was offering. 3 weeks later I blew the head gasket and they covered it, they even had the repair done at Jeep...... but it never ran right after that.

You got to be smart about buying warranties. But be even smarter about buying your car. If you can afford it, alot of dealerships now offer CERTIFIED pre owned vehicles. Like honda and hyundai, I think ford does. TOyota does. These cares usually have between 100 and 50k miles on them and they dealer warranties them to 10yrs or 100k miles. Better than new car warranties. And its backed by the dealership. Alot of times other dealerships will honor the certified warranties because the dealers do alot more owrk with each other on these cars.
