Hello all, I have a 87 ford ranger that was 4.0l swapped with a 93 4.0l out of another ranger. I was out with a couple of my friends and the motor started to get hotter than normal so i shut it down, after it cooled down for a little bit, I went and started it and it wasn't running right and i had no throttle response at all! So what do I do, I turn it off and let it sit and then i popped the hood open and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, no I have not checked the air filter yet, so i shut the hood and started it back up and it drove perfectly fine and then shut off and after about 5 times of it shutting off i gave up and had it put on a trailer and towed to my house. i was wondering if the MAF sensor could have anything to do with this problem, I've been looking on the internet and haven't found any decent explanation on what it is, if anyone has an answer please let me know ASAP. Thanks in advanced!!

Did you check the radiator fluid?

How hot was hotter then normal? How's fuel pressure? Heat causes fuel to vaporize and they run like shit. IAC ok? Antifreeze good color? No oil in it? Just a few ideas.

I had something like this happen with mine when we had a streak of some hot days. It would cruise and cruise until I let off the throttle and then bam, hard sputtering with no throttle response. Sometimes straight up would just die out. I attributed it to vapor locking. Yes I know, it's fuel injected and pressurized, so they don't vapor lock.... but.... when i pressed the schrader on the rail, vapor camed out. Haven't had a problem since the heat passed.

Could be your problem too. May wanna replace the IAT sensor.

Also, I got no codes from the engine, but when I plugged in the scanner and watch the live data feed, during the hard sputtering, fuel injectors were at 10mS (maxed out) and o2 was reading 0 volts (meaning no carbon in the exhaust).

It runs at 190 the entire time it runs and I beat on it, this time it hit 230 and started to run real shitty, checked all the fluids when I got it on the trailer and everything was fine, the motor oil was a little runny but I checked it yesterday and its fine haven't really had time to work on it due to work.

Just might have to try that when I get the chance to.

Also, my AC condenser had the fins flattened which I believe made it run hot, blocking air to the radiator.

Took me a flat head, 3 beers, and 2 hours on a Sunday. May wanna check that too

This is possible the worst advice I've ever seen on a forum.

That job should take at least 5 beers and 3 hours on a Saturday.
