I put up a post yesterday about radio interference in 1st gear only. Today I cleaned the plug in for the condensor on the coil and checked the other plug-ins located in the same area and generaly just looked everything over and sprayed everything with WD-40 and now it wont run at all:annoyed: It's cranking over fine and is getting gas but it seems no fire. I see one red wire going into a round connector that looks to be broken inside the insulation. I called my friend who does diagnostics and he said that might be it,he also said I could check continuity but my voltmeter is analog and could possibly send to much juice through the wire and fry something so it looks like Im stuck here until Monday evening till he can come and look at it:sad: This is the first time it has refused to start since I got it:sad:

double check the connections to see if a pin has pushed back within the connector itself.

Thanks for the reply. My friend told me the same thing about the pins maybe being pushed out. The only two connectors I actually unhooked before it not starting was the coil plug-in and the condensor plug in. I just looked at both ends of the connectors at the wires on the other plug ins and sprayed them with WD. Thanks again IMenRiched and God Bless.

you're welcome, all Glory is HIS.

If that is all good....there are several other connections and grounds that need to be checked as well.

you hint that you are not at home, traveling, eh. Not sure how much tools you have with you. try to remove the TFI, or ignition module from the back side of the distributor housing get it tesed. these can have sudden failure. you'll need a special wrench...most parts stores carry them and <$10. and again most parts store will test these TFI's for free, just test multilpe times

Thank the Lord I am at home,as is the truck :) I just about sure that by moving the plug ins around I caused a wire that was bad to break all the way. My friend who is gonna come to check it out already looked at it once and found a ground wire in the same area of plug-ins that was bad, he said other than that everything else was working good. He has been doing wiring and troubleshooting on vehicles since right after we graduated in 86'. The only problem that remained was that it wouldn't idle real smoothly and then recently I started hearing the interference through the FM radio in 1st gear only. The red wire on one of the plug-ins looks like it had been bent or twisted badly and looks broken even though the insulation is ok. My friend said since my volt meter is analog I shouldn't test it because it is probably not low impedence and could send voltage down the wire and hurt something else. He usually charges $50 for an hour but didn't charge me the first time so I will be sure to have him take some money this time :) God bless and yes,The glory is HIS!

Not idleing well, surgeing etc, hints of the AIC,,,try removing it & give it a good cleaning with some carbon cleaner. let dry and reinstall.

will this start in gear and clutch completely depresseed?? or do you need to start in neutral only?

I have changed the AIC and that helped alot,it doesn't surge anymore. The idle is just not smooth,it's not real bad. My friend checked and all the sensors and the computer seems to be working fine. He thought maybe it wouldn't idle smooth due to the age and miles. It had slightly low vacume (15-16in) so I put Restore in the oil and that helped a lot but still the idle would'nt smooth out all the way. It usually starts in any gear with the clutch depressed. I had cleaned the old AIC and the ports...that killed one set of spark plugs with the junk that was in the ports. I cleaned out the intake when I got it,ran seafoam through it and then also cleaned the intake again and wiped off the back of the throttle blade which had a ton of black junk on it. I'll let you know what my friend finds today when he checks it out :)

Okay....My friend got here today and checked it out. He hooked up a diagnostic computer and checked the wire I thought was broke....it wasn't. He checked the coil plug-in I had unplugged and cleaned it a little bit, plugged it back in and it started right up. The plug in is bad and the coil is weak. He said that is most likely why the idle hasn't been smooth. Also the radio interference is gone in first gear. I think that in first gear it torqued the engine more and caused the wiring to the coil to move and also it had been hard to use reverse without killing the engine,I think also due to the lower gear and causing the engine to move more. On a side note: I put a can of Restore in the oil after he checked it last time and said the vacume was kinda low (15-16in) and now 400 miles later it's showing 18-19in and it jumps to 20+ with a little throttle. Once again he blessed me and wouldn't take any money :)
