last night at about 9:15PM, i shut my truck off. Went to restart it, and it wouldnt reach RPM above 500. It then died. After three unsuccessful attempts i had to push-start it, where it fired up no problem. i then drove to walmart and came back out, where once again it turned over with plenty of electrical power, but just wouldnt fire.....

i must add that it was POURING rain last night as well.
this morning, i went to start it, an it fired but quickly died. I had to keep giving it gas for about 20-30 sec to keep the idle up. driving it around all day today, it hasn't had a problem..its been warm and humid, with mist-like rain today.
i can hear the fuel pump whine now, and i did last night when it was having issues. any help is greatly appreciated!
i drive a 1993 Ranger XLT 4.0L with a standard transmission. it has new plugs and new air filter.
