my truck broke down on the freeway and now its not getting spark i replaced the coil the starter the short circuit protector on the drivers side fender well the ecu and the fuse/relay next to the ecu and still no spark coming from the coil i checked to make sure the rotor om my distribitor is spinning and its working just fine except the spark any sugestions ?????:icon_confused:

Well not sure of what engine you have but on common thing on the rangers that ford had on there distributors was the TFI module, its the thing that has the plug and wires going into it on the distributor. They are know to just go out and wont allow your engine to run.

He posted in the 2.8l forum... hint...hint. :D

It says he has an 87. The last year of the 2.8 was 85. Point being, out could be your TFI.

sorry guys i wasnt very spacific my bad but i have an 84 ranger and it does have to 2.8 thanks for the info i have a lot of extra parts from a ranger that i just bought ill see if that fixes it and get back to ya i really appreciate the info its been sitting in my driveway wasting space way too long lol

There are two different screws holding on the tfi either the torx or a thin wall socket you can get the thin wall socket at any part store and make sure you use alot of heat syc grease on the surface before you mount it to the dizzy or it will burn up. It could also be the hall sensor pickup if the Module dont work you need to pull the dizzy apart to change it. If you pull the dizzy make sure it is on TDC and the rotor is pointing toward 11 oclock so you know how to install it. That saves alot of time and headache.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU i tryed the tfi off of an old distribitor and it fired right up your a freakin master thanks to everyone who has helped

I would recommend a new TFI now that you know what the problem was. And as stated the heat sync grease is a must.

I carry a spare, along with a tool to remove the TFI, after breaking down in a City intersection. Almost $300.00 and several hours to get back on the road.

Tool was about $5.00

AND while I'm here, a manual (or more than one) is the best way to go; repair by random replacement is too expensive.

yeah i bought a brand new tfi and installed it and i have the spare that i tested it with in my truck box thanks guys
