Hey guys, I have a 1995 ranger 4x4 4.0, 5 spd. the truck would not start, we changed to a new fuel pump. new relays, still nothing. I checked spark at the coil no spark, I changed crank sensor. no spark. I noticed that the fuel pump does not shut off after a few seconds though. I thought they shut off after it built up pressure. the truck always would need to be started twice, You would start it would run for a second then die ,restart it then it would purr like a kitten.it didnt matter how cold or warm it was. a buddy said he checked power at the coil coming in and it had power.but no spark at the plug, I changed wires and plugs , no spark.

HI THERE

As for the no spark I dont know but I would say the fix is here somewhere. when you get her running that starting twice problem is most likely your intake being ditry. Same problem with my 4.0 heres what I did.
I cleaned the maf sensor with MAF SENSOR cleaner from napa nothing else should be used!!!!! Be verry careful cleaning it instructions here in the tec libary. Then I cleaned my butterfly valve with combustion chamber cleaner and a tooth brush. Get all of the carbin out. Clean the IAC with combustion chamber but I seprated it from the intake and seprated the solnide from the valve body and got most of the carbin off of the valves. DO NOT SOAK THE SOLNIDE!!!Leve it soke for a while it helps. Then last thing I did was hooked up my maf sensor and ran the engine with the breather tube off and sprayed combustion chamber cleaner directly into the intake through the hole in the butterfly reving the engine at times. Havent hade a problem starting after.

okay with key on the fuel pump is running continualy. you can hear what sounds like gas spraying out an injector. I unplugged the injector and it still sounds like its leaking.I think thats the fuel pump question. maybe even the starting twice thing.
