this is confusing me. i have adjusted the shift cable according to the info i found here and @ ford-trucks.com.

reverse works fine when shifting from park - reverse. if i shift from OD - reverse i have none, like it is in neutral.....if i go back to park then to reverse it is fine.

i am starting to think the pan is going to have to come off....linkage problem inside the trans!!:annoyed:

any ideas?

What was your original problem to make you adjust the shift cable ??

the same problem i have now....trans was replaced under warranty and it didn't do this before, which makes me think it is internal in the trans linkage.

Then take it back to where it was installed. They may not honor the warranty if they find you messing with it.

i would but it took them 7 months to put in the trans and i found other things jacked up on my truck after i got it back......like no 4x4 (they jerked the plug out of the floor for the shift motor), they bent my roll pan....so they are not getting it back!!

Ok then.

Disconnect the cable from the shift lever on the trans.

Move the shift lever on the trans to neutral ( count the clicks, is the 2nd click from park )

Put gear shift lever to neutral and have some one hold it there against the stop by gently pushing it towards the R position. You'll feel the " notch "

Look at the PRND21. The needle should be at the middle of N. if not, you can adjust it later.

Go underneath the truck and look at the cable end and the lever on the trans. They should be perfectly lined up, if not adjust the cable ( make sure your assistant is still holding the shift lever !!

Once that is done, you can adjust the PRND21 indicator. Leave it in neutral, and look under the steering column for the adjuster wheel. Is a little black wheel on the right side of the column. Turn the wheel untill the needle is perfectly in the middle of N.

+1 my trk did the same thing one time and cable was stretched a hair, adjusted it out and presto!
