No reverse and will not shift out of first

Need help! 2000 Ranger V-6 Automatic. Got in the truck yesterday and had no reverse. Shifted to drive and it worked fine but would not shift out of first gear. What do you guys think the problem could be? Thanks for the help!

i had that problem with my 88 2.9 and it litteraly just blew up on my 10 min ago so yea chances are its broken like mine im just swapping in a manual

no reverse at all? Does it try to pull forward while in reverse? If i just free wheels in reverse there is a good chance the it has a broken band. If it pulls forward something broke and welded together. In all honestly it sounds like a rebuild. Broken low reverse bands were pretty common in the early 2000's.
