No power to the OBD-II/ABS (I'm told)

2002 4WD Ranger XLT has a check engine light on - been awhile for that. My OBD-II/ABS analyzer cannot read any error codes.

Thinking my cheap analyzer may be the problem, I had the local NAPA store put their analyzer on it and had the same problem.

The NAPA guy says there is no power to the OBD-II/ABS and, if it were a GM, it would be the cigarette lighter fuse.

I've looked through my manual but cannot identify a fuse to power the OBD-II/ABS. Am I on the right track or some other problem?
 
Yes, its the cigar(cigarette) lighter fuse in most vehicles

Fuse 17 in cab fuse box in 2002 Ranger, 20amp fuse
 
Fuse 17 looked ok but I changed it out anyway.

Now my analyzer says the "ABS module not detected."

Now what?
 
Check the ABS fuses, there are 2 in the engine bay fuse box

Shouldn't need "key on" power to see ABS module, but maybe, easy to look at fuse 11 in cab fuse box

And can your OBD2 reader "see" other modules besides PCM, some can't

I checked the two engine bay fuse box ABS fuses (1.11) and (1.28), all check out ok as does fuse 11 in the cab fuse box.

Is there a separate ABS module or is that built into the PCM?

I fear I may have the PCM gremlin back again. I had no manner of no start PCM problems the summer before last and all mysteriously went away. I had the PCM checked and it passed all the tests. Geez!
 
If its 4WABS, and it should be, the ABS module is in the unit in the engine bay with the 5 brake lines
 
Ok. Of course this started while driving in the rain. Probably the first time I've driven in the rain this year.
 
Is it that rare to have a ABS module go bad?
 
Ok so the blasted *&%$^* ABS problem healed itself! Gosh I hate those electrical gremlins!
 
Three days, 850 miles, of driving in the rain and that blasted *&%$^* ABS problem is back. Check Engine light on. Tool cannot detect the ABS module. I clear the error code and comes back on in just a few minutes of driving.

It's been awhile so I will check the fuses.

Checked fuses. All good.

Made the hour drive to Fort Morgan National Cemetery late this afternoon. No rain! The Ranger was in the garage all night and in the driveway this afternoon.

So full hour drive and NO CODES! I hate these electrical gremlins. It makes me wonder if one of the wheel sensors is giving me the error code when wet?
 
I'd suspect the connection more than the sensor itself, but certainly sounds plausible.
