My stripper XL Ranger doesn't have power steering so can I get away without the oil filter relocation and the upside down carter fuel pump? (carbed motor?)

Recent examples show that a regular mechanical fuel pump can be used, but you will need the oil pump relocation.

Happened to dig this up, shows the filter adapter on the block, and the steering box:

still going to need the relocation kit instead of a filter on the block, but I wonder if I will be able to get away with a 90 degree adpater on mine to get around it. I haven't put too much effort into research if it's been tried, but I am curious to try it and see if I can get around it.

It would be close, and it would depend on your FEAD. Right now it would put my filter into the power steering pump. You would have to put it on before you dropped the engine in, no way you could get that bolt in after the fact.

That's what I was worried about, that the filter mounting flange wouldn't be low enough to clear. I really need to start thinking about it more, I'd really not like to use a relocation kit at all. The front end dress is good though, my truck is manual everything this round (except hyd clutch) - so all I have to worry about is w/p and and an alternator. :D

If you ever forget to put the adapter on, and your engine is in, you can drop the steering box down still attached to the drag link, and just barely get it on there. But I agree, don't think I would be able to get the 90 degree adapter on with the engine in regardless.
