for some reason after i went through some semi serious puddles/creeks the other day my 1993 4.0 has lost lots of power, i thought maybe it was the MAF so i took it off and took a look at it and it looked fine, so i then swapped my old ari box and filter with a K&N cone filter but i still feel a loss in power since before i was close to door handle deep in some water..anyone have and ideas they would be greatly appreciatted??

hydrolock?

well it was bogging really bad when i was in it deep, the exhaust must have been drinking some water because my exhaust has no pipe after the muffler, i've heard the term hydro lock before but i thought it was when my engine is seized? but my 4.0 still runs, just not aswell

If it didn't stall, it wasn't hydrolocked. Though I don't know how you could have avoided it with that much water.

Do make sure your transmission, crankcase, transfer case and differentials aren't full of water.

Could the converter have cracked and got turned sideways, plugging the exhaust. If you can do a back pressure test on the exhaust.

Check the engine vacuum-make sure the engine is at operating temperature-Let it sit for a minute or two-Start vehicle and observe gauge. If you have an exhaust restriction The vacuum will slowly decrease as the engine runs. If the engine is worn your vacuum will be low to start with, but just look for the steady decrease in vacuum. Sounds like you got the ignition system wet.--Josh
