no hump A4LD?

all tags on my 94 2.3 say its an A4LD...changing the filter and didnt notice the new filter had a raised portion in the center(champion laboratories part #TF208/T226)i didnt notice till i couldn't put the pan back on. every-thing else lined up but this hump that i dont have on the pan. matching up the filters the old one had 2 square cut-outs and the new had one round raised hole...at 6pm sunday i had no choice but to cut off the raised section of the new filter...after researching it says A4LD's got a hump in the pan and mine dont!am i missin sumthin here...am i gonna lose the trans by modifying the filter? need some info quick thanks..

2wd uses a flat oil pan
4wd uses a deep oil pan "hump"

+1. Did the guy at the parts counter ask if you have 2wd/4wd? He should have, the filters are different.

AL4D filter

i always ask if they show more than one filter(many bad experiences years ago)guy said they only show 1...i went back and compaired both 2&4 wheel filters. the 2 wheel filter had a round & raised(about 3/8")center port and the 4 wheel had a square center port (about 1.5") with a 2 inch long plastic extension on it. the OE filter had 2 center ports. 1@1.5" and 1@1" square. i just cut out the raised part with tin snips on the round port filter..does anyone have any idea if the filters are the same except for the center port or are they internally different...
