My credo
Don't get louder, improve your argument.
2000 Ranger 2.5 MT Before I put in a new battery my fuel gauge read 1/2 tank (without a battery). Now it (with new battery) reads no fuel, and it has no fuel pressure. I don't hear the fuel pump, but I recently put a new one in. Fuse is good. Relay should be good.

What's going on?

First thing to check is the fuel pump inertia switch. It has a button on top and can trip like a circuit breaker.Tap it with a screwdriver handle to trip it if it isnt tripped already then push the reset button down.Push the button down and youll hear it click if its tripped. It should be located near the transmission hump, close to the firewall under the carpet slightly, passenger side or behind the passenger kick panel.
The next check is the fuel pump relay located in the underhood fusebox. If theres another relay with a identical part number and it doesnt belong to the pcm,you can swap it in place. The diagram below is for a 98-00 model.Click the following link then scroll down to the "click here to see" link and click it to download a wiring diagram.

I checked the inertia switch and the button was pushed down. I tripped it and reset it. Still nothing.

I've got to buy a new multimeter today. Once I've got it I'll test the relays.

Thanks for the response...very detailed!
