I finally went to start my ranger that has been sitting since 2004, sprayed some starting fluid in the intake...Vroom! started right up then stalled. Checked the fuel guage, empty. So I put gas in, now it has 1/4 tank. I was only able to run it on starting fluid. I don't think I am getting fuel at all. The little valve up top for the fuel rail I pressed in and no pressure. Could it be the fuel pump? I am new to rangers.

I would change the fuel filter.........check the fuel pump fuse, relay and inertia switch. after that see if you can hear the pump.

After having getting my B2 running after sitting six years I would be surprised if the low pressure in tank pump is good. I got lucky on the high pressure pump on the frame rail under the driver side floor panel but the in tank pump and filter was so caked with junk you could barely recognize it. You should be able to hear them run a few secs when you turn it on.

Old fuel pretty much turns to varnish. I'd change the filter like others have said then test it for pressure at the rail with a gauge.

Bring 'er back to life!

i know that if it has not run in a long time or the fuel tank was empty the fuel system will lose pressure, you will have to cycle the fp (fuel pump) to get the gas pumped through the system and build up pressure again before it will start (it takes a long to do this). Just turn on the ignition and listen for the fp to turn on (the fp will only turn on for about 3 seconds and then stop), then turn off the ignition and wait a few seconds for the fp relay to turn off (you can hear the fp relay click in the engine bay) Repeat this MANY times (be patient) then try starting every few cycles. P.S. just in case you dont hear the fp turning on with the ign. check on the fire wall under the glove box for the fuel pump inertia switch (little black box with a push button on top) and push the button. Good luck.

The tank was totally empty, so the gas in it now is new. I was under the truck and the filter I should change is the one in the frame under the cab right? I also am gonna check the button under the passenger dash.

I am not sure of your year trucks filters but on my 88 there is one inside the frame rail under the exhaust manifold (do this one) and a fuel return canister before the frame rail fuel pump(tucked in tight inside the frame rail and cross member, do not do anything to this canister it is not a filter, if you even have one that is), and there is the fuel pump and filter inside the tank (a total pain in the A$$) let us know how it goes, good luck.
