becauase of the age they are not needed here either , but they do have a hole in one i just wanted to make sure there were no negative effects to not having them thanks .

i'm not sure why my previous thread was closed but here in new york after 20 years it is legal i just wanted to no if ther were any negative effects from not having them since it would be close to $900 here to replace the factory specified exaust running 2 cats ?

It is illegal anywhere in the United States to remove ANY emissions equipment if your vehicle was originally equipped with it from the factory...

Cats definitely need to be present for your vehicle to pass a NY state inspection if it came from the factory that way. I drive an 86 and they check to see if they are there when I get it inspected. All they look for is the presence of the cat, whether it functions or not is a completely different story. If the cat is unmelted and functional it is 100% pointless to remove it, there is very little gain you will see on an unmodified vehicle anyway.

holyford86 , correct me please if i am wrong but there is a cut off point as far as vehicle age where they are not mandatory , i will recheck i could have been mistaken and again i am not looking for performance , just to see if it will hurt performance wise not to have them and hopefully not have to shell out that kind of scratch if i don't have to .

There is no cut off date... If your vehicle has certain emissions equipment, it CANNOT be removed legally... Some states just don't check it after a certain age...

either way if it is legally or not it isn't a good idea to run the 2.9L with out cats. i did it for a while with a "test" pipe and it ran horrible with out it. no bottem end to speak of. the engine likes back pressure. i run high flow magnaflow factory replacement and it works great. just my two pennies.

If one thread gets closed by a mod, DO NOT start another thread on the same subject.

It is illegal in the U.S. to remove ANY emission equipment from a vehicle. Just DO NOT do it. TRS does NOT promote illegal activities.
