Ninja Trike

I learned on a 87 Yamaha 350 dual sport when I was 12, I couldn't even put my feet down since I wasn't tall enough, but I learned a lot on that bike, and it didn't matter if I dropped it or anything. and then once I was old enough to get my permit, I started riding my dad's 87 883 Sportster and then got my license and now I have my own 07 Dyna that gets 45-50 mpg :) My girlfriends driveway is all gravel and about 1000 feet long, and I ride my Dyna on it with no problems, you get use to all the little things real quick, I think the weirdest thing I have rode on is the grates that are usually across draw bridges, your tires wobble between the grooves.

My insurance rate i think is 300 a year through Progressive, and since I am on my dads plan, I am also covered on his 05 ultra classic and on the 87 sportster, and soon the 81 honda we are fixing up. But Geico wanted to charge me like 1100 or something crazy for a similar plan. Full coverage and all. So just make sure you call around

Thats how it is here, you take your written part and get permit. then you can just jump on a bike and ride. but you have certain amount of time to take a safety course (i'm not sure it's mandatory but thats what i've heard) and pass the driving part, which is easy. all you do is follow a car around the block and if you survive you get our license.

Here in MD, you take a written test for the permit, that expires in 6 months, and at any point you can take your Class M test, I don't think you even need a permit to get your license, but our test is on a closed coarse and was super easy, it took me all of 2 minutes if that.

well im bummed because i just found out that they are canceling the test this friday so it's another 2 weeks till it will be back where i can take and im not sure mom or dad will be able to get that day off so it may be awhile till i get my license.

man i'm pissed

if all your trying to do is convince mom and dad... dont get a crothch rocket! they got bad reps from the stupid aS# kids that ride like they just robbed a bank. get a enduro or cruiser to get them to under stand a lil more
then save money and buy what you want a lil down the road works wonders trust me :icon_hornsup:

I'd get a small dirt bike that way you can tell them you'll be safe(r) since you won't be around cars. Then move up to something bigger. Gravel is doable, it just takes some getting used to. It also helps if the engine doesn't have a peaky powerband.

My bike is pretty peaky when cold and my ex-girlfriend had a gravel driveway that had a big dip that was also a turn. That led for some fun times leaving there in the dark...
