newer f150 gas mileage?

Well, there are mulitple variables at work here, like your driving style, engine, trans., weight/load, etc.
But I have heard that the 4.6L with an auto, and driven conservatively, will get about 18 mpg.
the 5.4L, not so much.
Prolly the best overall is the 4.2L w/5spd: 19?
hope this helps, I like F150's too, but can't justify the extra $ and size.

thats what im lookin at, 4.6 auto. would intake, exhaust, n chip bump it up or decrease it?

this one would be drivin like a baby.

i know i drive my ranger stupid somtimes, but the last tank of gas i drove like n old man lol and only got 17 mpg.

yeah, some of those mods might help, but ya gotta figure in their costs vs how much fuel you could buy instead. For me, and the mechanics I've talked to, I feel leaving it stock is the best way to get long term reliability. BTW I've read on this website, that the 3.0 kinda needs to flogged on, revved up, (however ya say it), to get optimal fuel mileage...

get about 19-20 on the highway with my f150, 4.2l, auto, 3.55 gears, in town kinda sucks, my grandparents 5.4 gets about the same milage towing as my v6 towing, and my parents 4.6is the worst out of them

Sounds like the Ranger lineup: 3.0 has pwr of the 4-banger, and fuel mileage of the 4.0.
I just looked on MSN autos, they pretty much list the F150's mileage btwn 14 and 18.

i know 2 people with 06-07 f150's, both with the 5.4 i think. they both claim about 14 mpg.

My dad has an '05 extended cab 2wd, 5.4 auto with a Diablo sport tune ( I highly recommend it, the truck drives like a turd with out it)

Gets about 13 - 14 mpg with mixed highway and city driving.

But defiantly get the tune, my dad also had '04, same truck as the '05 just with a superchips tune instead, went from a 17.6 1/4 Mile to a 16.4 1/4 mile with the tune and the diablo tune in the '05 feels like it runs stronger then the Superchips. and not only the performance got better but because the new trucks have throttle by wire the response time is slooow and the tune fixed it, that and the shifts are nice and firm.

Most people get the best fuel economy with the 4.6. The V6 sucks fuel and no power, the 5.4 sucks fuel but pulls better. The 4.6 is a good all round compromise.

Gotta warn ya the 4.6 drives like a slug unless you get a tuner or something...just feels slow especially in the crew cab.

My dad just turned his 2006 in a couple of months back. He usually got around 18MPG on the highway, with (if I remember correct) about 14-16MPG in the city.

F-150 XLT 4X4
5.4L with auto trans and 3.73 gearing
extended cab short bed
I believe it was the 20 or 25 gallon fuel tank
it was all stock execpt for a Herculiner in the bed

My grandfather's 2006 is about the same:
F-150 4X4
5.4L with auto and 3.73 gearing
extended cab short bed
with a 35 gallon fuel tank

Here are some of my grandfathers mods:
wedge style cap
bull bar with other chrome pieces added (mirror trim, door handles, etc.)
evolution power programmer

He usually gets 12-14mpg in the city (he has a lead foot though) and has been getting about 19 mpg on the highway (unloaded). With our 6' x12' trailer loaded (approximatley 2000Lbs.) he gets about 8-13mpg on the highway.

Both of these have the towing package.

Hope this helps you a little.
