So I have a '87 Ranger, and I have a newer fed emiss computer. What exactly needs to be done to swap to the newer computer? No MAF nothing like that..

Thanks:beer:

If you have a manual trans?

Put it in.

the only thing it'll do differently is it will NOT look for function of the EGR system
Nor will it command the EGR control solenoid.

These are good things.

You see EGR was a federal mandate and was not functionally required for
the engine to meet emmissions, however some jackass at ford programmed
the '86-87 cmputer to freak out if it detected an egr malfunction

with an '89-92 2.9 computer the EGR system could literally fall off and
the computer couldn't care less.

Nice then no plugging of vacuum lines and no wiring?

Presuming the vacuum lines aren't leaking leave them alone.

If they ARE leaking shoving a BB or blob of RTV into the rubber boot
on the end of the plastic line will seal them and leave them looking like
they are still "in place" if you must ever survive a "visual" emmissions
inspection...

Well the computer is in, it runs better? It was a little lumpy at first but it does run a bit better. Most of the reason I wanted to do this is because before when you started it in gear it reved to 3,000 (warm) (sometimes higher) rpm. It does not do that anymore:icon_thumby: It also on a cold start would fire then sputter then die. That is better but still a bit rough on a cold start. I have no idea what that is, most of the sensors, the FPR, injectors, filters ect are new.. any Ideas on that?

Thanks again:beer:
