Looking to get a Sporttrac to have 4 doors for hauling the kids around. Will either get a strait axle or dixon bros. Just wondering if the auto's hold up ok and what improvements to make to them to make them. Will stay with 33's if dixon bros, but 35's if axled.

Even they have their problems. I've had lots of Expy's and Navigators come in for tranny trouble at my shop. Make sure to change the fluid regularly. The shifting problems seem to be centered around the 2-3 shift in my experience, but I don't work with tranny's too often.

I say as long as you regear the axles and change the tranny fluid regularly, you shouldn't have many problems. An extra tranny cooler is something to consider too.

Yeah, I would regear accordingly. Was just courious about the 5 speed auto's and If they'd hold up. I've found some 5 speed manuals also. I don't want an expedition because they're to big. I know the sport trac's don't have a real big bed, but big enough to hold a deer, elk, bear or cougar. :icon_thumby: I like the size because it's the same size as my ranger and I go down some tight trails hunting and stuff. I like the idea of disk brakes all the way around but with the money for dixon bros suspension a solid axle would be a good way to go. I plan to use it for hunting and play, just need to have 4 doors for the rug rats.
