I'm glad I found this board. May need your collective wisdom one of these days.
My name is Paul, my wife's name is Cindy. We live in Linn County, Oregon.
I'm 65...so please be kind to an old goat. Keep in mind that if you keep breathing long enough, you'll get here too.
We bought our '99 XLT new...primarily as a grocery hauler for Cindy. I don't like the torque steer of front wheel drive vehicles, thus the Ranger. Selected after driving the Mopar offering. Why? Cindy liked the seats and the 4 doors.
I liked the adequate power of the 4.0.
Minor mods...spray in bedliner, and a soft tonneau. This makes for keeping the grocery bags dry in Oregon.
Oh, I gave away the original battery, bought the smaller optima designed for the Corvette.
The best mod? I hated the sphagetti like original shocks, so I had a set of Edelbrok IAS shocks installed. WOW! Totally transformed the handling...so much so, that I decided to skip adding sway bars.
Ranger just turned over 50,000 miles. Mobil 1 used after break in. Started out with 3,000 mile oil & filter changes, but switched to 5,000 at the 45,000 mark. Figured I was probably going overkill with 3,000 mile changes on synthetic.
We just use the Ranger as our daily driver. I also have an old '77 Dodge short bed Power Wagon with a modded 360 for the heavier hauling duties.
I also had a 1972 Porsche 911S...but as it's value increased, I became less happy with it. So, last year, I sold it to a dear friend who lives in Istanbul, with a promise that it will never leave Turkish soil. I wanted it to forever remain out of the hands of certain "flipper, stripper, and pimp" types.
Guess that's about it...
