Used 4wd in the 96 ranger i bought in september with 160k miles. Its very well taken care of. The other night i had to use 4wd to make ashort run. When i got back i switched to2wd & did the back up thing and parked. The next morning drove for breakfest & then to work. (1.5 miles). Left work and just before my neihborhood a strange noise came from the R/front. When i turned it made a clicking sound. I tried 4wd a couple of times with the backing up after. Worked until next morning. Backed up further & faster. 1 1/2 days it hasnt made that noise. I talked to the original owner who i bought it from. He never used the 4wd ! I'm guessing the old greese is sticky & makes it tuff for it to disengage. Will take the hubs apart & clean. So greese or trans fluid?

Wheel bearing grease. Too much is not enough.
