I am new to the list and learning about a part I need to allow me to shift a transmission I will be using in a project car. I have a rx7 motor married up to a Mazda 5 speed transmission that has had the rear tailstock changed out to a Mazda b2000/2200/2600 tailstock to allow the shift to fit coser to the firewall then the stock RX7 one. I realized that the stock RX7 shifter will not allow me to reach deep enough to grab the internal feet to engage in shifting. Therefore , I have been told that I need a stick shift from a Ford ranger 1988 which might be the same as the Mazda B2000 series one.
I am totally new to this stuff and just running with leads from others who suggested this forum for help
I was told an Explorer 91-93 will also be the same thing and maybe bronco II's
around 1987.
I am looking for any help to confirm any of this information and hopefully someone may have a spare stick shift around that is willing to make available.
I can be reaced at
frogeye@cox.net
and can provide photos of my project and transmission as well if that helps
Thanks
Alan

You need to know what ranger parts you have, i would bet its the M50d-r1 transmission parts. So look for a shifter from an m50d, or better yet, get on ebay and buy a short throw shifter for 88 ranger 2.3l (as with everything else read up on it and double check its the right part before buying from ebay. But I beleive this will work for you.

Just FYI, 1993 and older Mazda pickups are completely different and unrelated from Rangers and use different transmissions and shifters. 1994 and newer Mazdas are mechanically identical to Rangers.
