hey everyone, i have a 95 ranger xlt (drove it off the lot and still kickin) and i have a couple of problems.

the doorbell/ ringer whatever its called keeps "bonging" after i close the door. sometimes it shuts right off sometimes keeps going for miles...i read a couple post on here that say spraying wd40 in the door latch for the dome lights and door ajar lights staying on help and was wondering if that could be the problem.

my odometer is stuck at 91k miles for the past 2 years and was wondering how much of a job that is to fix, cause my dash lights are burnt (i just use a small flashlight to see my gas gauge lol) and i tried to change them and when i got to the instrument panel after 30 minutes in autozones parking lot and not seeing anyway to get to them i gave up.

thanks for any help

As far as the door bell ringing you could A) Replace the switch, 2) Take it out and clean it up so it connects and disconnects correctly, or D) Cut the bell wire like I do on all my vehicles. One question that would help a diagnosis; do your interior lights go off when you close the door or do they stay on as well?

I have taken the instrument panel off several times from my '94 and although I didn't fool with the odometer itself the other individual gauges and meters came out separately from each other. You could replace the odometer with one you have rolled to somewhere you estimate to be close to your actual mileage. I have never replaced one, though, so I am merely working by assumption here. Oh yeah, I just posted a reply about changing dash lights on another thread which may help you. (Change your lights while you are in the dash...)

the dome light does the same as the bell...if it rings the light is on (same amount of time)...before i took the fuse out, it would stay on for a little while after i would get out and turn the truck off

where is the switch? so i can either clean it or change it...im gonna try the wd40 in the door latch this afternoon to see if that works

as for the switch...ive really gotten used to the bell ringing when i leave my lights on for the past 13 years and i know im gonna be stuck asking people for jumps in the parking lot at work lol

the post on the interior lights was really helpful gonna try it

thanks

Open your door and look in the area on the front of the door where the hinges are. You will see a round silver stem with a rubber stopper on the end. This is a plunger switch and it will require a deep-well socket or a wrench to remove. You can remove it and do any one of the options above, but I recommend replacement since the switches are pretty cheap. (I bought one this morning for a project I am doing.) If you do not want to replace it and it is broken beyond repair you will have to leave the fuse out. There is no use cutting the chime wire if the lights stay on anyway. The reason I asked about the lights was to determine whether or not it was the bell chimer itself, but since the lights stay on as well it can only be the switch.

:icon_thumby:thanks harris....gonna try it in a few...this will be sooo much better than having to crank the radio to drown out that aggrivating sound lol
