Hey,

I live in the Houston area. I bought a new to me 1989 Bronco II on a family trip in Carlsbad NM over thanksgiving break in 2012. Just sort of came upon it. I ended up driving it home. It is a 5 speed manual and 2 wheel drive. It is 3 tone, dark blue, light blue and rust. I have a 15 year old daughter that I wanted for her to learn to drive a standard so this car is for her. But, she needs to save up cash to buy it from me. This gives me some time to work on it. She is pretty excited about it.

There is a ton of good info on here and I finally signed up for help and to help if I could.

I'm kind of a big picture guy and this vehicle has a couple of minor things going on with it. This bronco II has a huge oil leak, ac doesn't work, windows don't work, smells like burning oil per said leak, has power steering leak, leaks coolant, water leak when raining, radio works intermittently, gas leaks when tank is full, has lots of rust, needs paint, gas guage only works when below 5 gallons, carpet stains, has cracked dash, rattles, it has a weird intermittent vibration when driving. Other than that, it runs perfectly.

Where I live, kids are "given" new cars or nice used cars when they turn 16. I see kids in high school driving beamers, lexus, hummers, vettes, etc. I want my kids to see and appreciate the value of a car. My daughter, if she can save up her cash to buy this Bronco II from me will drive this beast. And she is thrilled, I love that. Me being a sucker for my kids, will probably let her drive it but it won't be "hers" until she forks out the cash.

See you on the forum...

cheers

Arnold

Awesome! I too have just purchased an '87 for my 15 year old boy. It is in good condition less the tranny. That is being built now. We will do the rest. Has an oil leak on valve covers and rear wheel cylinder needs rebuilt. As you have stated, my boy will also be buying this truck from me. Glad to see that i am not the only one that sees it that way.

Valve covers aren't too bad. I was able to lift up the covers just enough to get new gaskets underneath. I know I didnt get a good enough look but I accomplished my goal and didn't cause any new issues. I also have a post where i am gonna address a bigger oil leak problem. i will update it when I get around to it.
