Name is Andy!I just joined up cause I just purchased a Ranger project for my soon to be 15 year old son. It is a 1991 extended cab, 4x4 with the 4.0 and a manual trans. Motor is crap but that leaves multiple options for a new one!

I am no stranger to Fords or to Forums, This is what I spend my spare time on!

Debating between the stock 4.0 or an E.F.I 5.0

The 4.0 is more than enough, for somebody learning how heavy their foot is...

I have my 4.0 dynoing more power than a stock 302. Basically; coil, headers, ported heads, ported intake, and reworked throttle body. Stock bottom end, cam, and ecu. It'll pull through 5300 rpm, unlike the stock 4.0 which quits pulling around 4500 rpm. When I get the swampers buried in some good mud, it slips the clutch, even with 5.14 gears.

408 in the 86 has a fully forged rotating assembly, AFR 205 heads, 42 lb injectors, big solid roller cam, and lots of othere goodies. Makes 405 to the tires thru a C4 with a 3800 stall, on pump gas. Car weighs 3400 with me in it and it ran 11.2 @the 120 last year before a real tune.
