Ok guys, so the stock radio in my 93 Ranger hasn't worked since I bought it. No power to it for some reason. Checked fuses and nada. All fuses are good. What are some reasons I could have no power? I think I will pull the dash this weekend if I get time and see if I can find something there, but thought I would check with you guys and see if there is something obvious I may be missing. Also, while I have the dash off, I may decide to spend a couple bucks and put in a CD player instead of even messing with the old stock tape player that I really don't want anyways, just waiting until I could scrape up some cash for a decent head. What all would I need to do it myself? Install kit Radio removal tool. That should at least be a start right? Haha. I know these are simple questions for you audio guru guys, but it would really help me out if you have an extra minute. Also, if this is posted in the wrong place and there is a newbie audio section or something like that, please feel free to move it or delete it if needed. Thanks guys!

Aftermarket head units have fuses behind them for additional protection, yours might have the same so you might have to take it out to check. I'm not familiar with the stock head units as my truck never came with one so I'm not sure. Other than that it might be a cut power wire or a broken head unit.

Gotcha. Looks like I will be pulling it for sure then!

Haha! Just saw your "Used for:" deal under your name over there. Thats hilarious. So simpe, but one of those things that caught me off guard.

i dont think the stock stereos have fuses but your going to have to check anyway if you want to put in another one so its worth a shot plus its only two screws

it may not be the power you could have no ground, but i would take the old one out and start wire checking and were it went wrong. you could very well have a circuit in the HU go out and the HU is just broke.

Cool. Thanks guys! One more question. I do have an old Rampage brand HU that does work. Now, I know that this is a cheap Audioivox and that it is basically no good, BUT it would be better than a stock HU that doesn't even power on ya know? I think I will probably just put this old junker in instead of purchasing a cheap head to put in for now and regretting not saving for a nicer one. What all would I need to install the Rampage in my truck? Just that install kit and Ford removal tool that I linked in the OP?

anything is better then nothing, the removel tool you dont neeeeed you can use a metal coat hanger or 2 small screwdrivers, you do need a wiring harness adabpter and the install kit.

Just checked out the HUs they sell on that website. What is your opinions on Boss brand stuff? This looks like a decent deal if they aren't absolute crap. I am not looking to blow anybodys doors off or anything like that, but I would like to be able to power some decent 6x9s with it eventually. Thoughts?

the wireing harness looks about right,

the HU id go to wally world and pick something, they have pioneers there, that will run you the same $$$ and its in your hands out the door. then theres no shipping issues or returns to worry about. ect

thank you

peace thur superior firepower

Thats right! Is that a bullpup AK on the bottom? Tiny picture and bad eyes. Haha!
