So I'm new to the forum here. Love the site! I'm pretty much a newb so bear with me.

I have 2 88 Rangers right now. Both have 2.9's in them. One has a manual, and the engine doesn't run, and the other has an auto that's doesn't work but the engine runs strong still. I wanna put the good engine in the Ranger with the good transmission. Other than needing a fly wheel, is there anything else I'll need to make the swap? Will it be an "easy"/direct bolt in?

Thanks for your time!!!

So as long as u just drop the tranny out replace the flywheel it should just be a straight switch over u might wanna put a new clutch in don't wanna drive your new beast for a short time and have that drap out on u then u gotta do all your hard work over again:sad:

Ok....so you are pulling the engine from the 5 speed truck that doesn't run and put the good engine in it from the truck with the auto? Does that sound right? I'm still a little confused here. But if you are putting the 2.9 in the truck with the 5 speed and it already has a 2.9 then yes it will be a direct swap. All you need to do is transfer the flywheel over and install a new pilot bearing along with clutch disc and pressure plate.

Yes, I'm taking the engine from the truck with the auto transmission and putting it in the truck with the 5spd. Sorry for not being more clear about that. Thanks for the replies guys!
