Transmission
Automatic
Hey guys, i just got a 99 ranger with a 5.0 from a 96 explorer. the truck was an auto, but now is a manual. When i put a scanner on it, it threw the codes for the auto tranny sensors, because they are no longer there. Will this affect getting a sticker on it? they plug in the obd2 where i live. Is there any way to stop it from throwing these codes since it is no longer an auto?

How much does a shop usually charge for an ECU re-flash? Also, when they do this will they be able to get rid of an EGR valve code?
thanks.

idk about anything your asking.

but if you un hook the battery it will give you 5 to 10 min maybe more code free.

It will clear the codes, but they will return.

Its all in the wiring. Whoever built the truck didn't do it quite right. The computer looks for a certain resistance at each shift solenoid and sensor, and if they're not within what the computer thinks is "in spec", you end up with a code. If you could get a wiring diagram for the Explorer harness and trace down the right wires, you could fix it. We had to go through the very same procedure when we built my pickup, for the very same reason. I can tell you from firsthand experience that you can kill the light... Can I tell you which wires you need? Nope. I did the mechanical stuff, my dad did all the wiring.

I DOUBT it would change whether or not you get a sticker (I'm assuming you mean passing emissions...?) because it has nothing to do with emissions equipment. BUT, if you have an EGR code, you will fail emissions. Is the code because something in the EGR circuit is bad, or is the code there because whoever built the truck took it out? Hopefully it's still there... or whoever built the truck doesn't know what they're doing.

ECU reflash... typically a dealer-only service. And the dealer probably won't do this for the reasons you need. Too much of a liability issue for them.

Ok, i was reading that you can have the ECU re-flashed to get rid of all the tranny codes because it used to be an automatic. I heard you can have it re-flashed so the computer will now read that it is a manual and not an automatic?
thanks

You should be able to find a SCT or equivalent dealer that will re-flash it for you. Local tuner here prefers working on the OBD11, said no problem doing it.

Need help with EVAP

Hey guys, i am having a tuner burned for my truck to get rid of the Transmission codes, and i am installing a mil eliminator so the o2 sensors will read right. The only thing i need help with is the EVAP. When i put my scanner on the truck, it does not throw a code, but when it is hooked up to the MA OBD scanner, it shows that the evap is incomplete or something, what can be done about this?
thanks.

Hey, i was wondering if the mil eliminators advertised for the 96-04 mustang GT will work on the 5.0 rangers?
thanks.

as far as passing emissions it should be fine the only thing they care about is if your ecu is throwing out emissions codes, they dont care about transmission codes, not to mention if all else fails there is always someone out there that will smog your shit for a little extra, i had to do this with my dads 82 f150 cuz he swapped in his built 460 stroker with absolutly no smog equp. cost ma about 300 bucks but hey its worth it

The EVAP circuit is the emissions circuit. If it is indicating "incomplete" you won't pass smog. You can "pass" smog like he suggested, but you won't do it legitimately without figuring out why it won't complete the tests. There are alot of places to look for as to why it won't complete, and its tough to say without seeing the truck in person.

when you get your reflash, just get all the emissions stuff deleted as well like the EGR and the evap system.

poof, no more light.

Depending on how they do the check though, that won't necessarily get you through smog. It will still indicate "incomplete" for the Evap in an OBD-2 scanner.

hi-po shops will do it for about 300 bucks... but as far as getting rid of EGR info... well the original obviously came with it... otherwise the computer wouldn't be saying it's not there.

if you do get it passed it will be by a person not following federal guideline to a t..

you can not smog that combination unless you bring the 99 spec pcm/emmision equipment into the picture. even then its still not legal on the federal end.

you can retitle the truck as a homebuilt / hot rod / or other and get away with opacity type inspections though.

What did you do about the fuel system? 1999 is returnless fuel system the 96 isn't.

I have 01 Exp/Mountaineer 5.0 in my 1999 very easy swap
