So I just bought a truck last night.

1994 4x4 2 door Double cab 4.0L, has an STX badge but not sure if its true or what it means... only could find that the STX came with side graphics which it doesn't have...

Well long story short, it needs at least the rear u-joint. Problem is I don't know which u-joint to get as autozone or others list about 20 different ones...

Any help? I can provide pictures later if needed.

I'd phone or go in person to your local parts place, you might luck out and talk to someone knowledgeable [which I'm not on this subject]. Take a pic of your door decal; decoded, it has a lot of info, including if it's an stx.

Thats a splash....No matter what package you have, there is no diffence in the joint. The only thing that is important is that it is a supercab(ext cab) which would give it a 2 piece rear driveshaft.

Go to the parts store and have them cross this part number: 1-0153

Its an advance auto part number, but autozone or any other should be able to cross it.

just say you need 3 u joints for a 1994 4x4 4.0L Ranger. you have a 3 point drive shaft. I HATE auto zone with a passion. the people there don't know jack shit. i go to my local advantage, there are some knowledgeable people there and the guy i usually talk to owns a ranger himself.

And once you get done changing all of these, you might still have a ping like a bad u joint. I do. its just the slip yoke being dry. its easy to grease it but won't necessarily fix the sound still.

Thanks guys,
I replaced them last night. One cap was starting to come out because of the snap ring being gone and a few had their snap rings broken. Wasn't so bad of an install but the bugs last night were killer, so it was super annoying. C-clamp was a savior because I didn't trust myself with a hammer banging them in.

We determined it is lifted a bit, has a puck under the leaf springs, and bigger shackles, also bigger springs up front. It has bilstein shocks on it as well. The Diff cover has been changed with a Trick Flow one but not sure if anything was done inside.

Still has a slight shudder down low, when the engine is loaded, and a slight skip which I am going to take care of this weekend when I change the valve cover gaskets.

Because the engine moves around so much under load should I check for a bad motor/tranny mount? Or is that some-what of a normal thing?
