12 ton harbor freight press and then I added an air over hydraulic jack to it. Hopefully will work great for setting up my gears! Wanted to buy the 20 ton but they were sold out, olwell the 12 ton will do.

Careful with the press plates that come with those. Use to be made of cast steel, easy to crack and shatter. don’t know if they still are.

Hunk of AR plate is safest.

Swag sells some really nice arbor plates but they are spendy.

I ran across a small piece of 1" plate that had just enough meat left to make two arbor plates for mine... I had a full day into building them. Most of that was to cut the stupid round holes, ever used a hole saw to cut through 1" plate??? Takes f o r e v e r but they turned out real nice.

I'd really like to get a press brake attachment or whatever for my hazard fraught 20 ton press.

I was going to do what Shran did or just use solid stock. We have more than enough 1" or 2" plate at work i can use. All i really need it for right now is push bearing on carriers and pinion bearings. Ill build whatever we need future uses.

That is on my short list of tools I want too... and the chamfering table from Swag. I have the chamfer tool, just need the table, it looks super handy.

Bought a new 1/2" drill. My Bosch 18v has given me many years of excellent service. But its gearbox finally wore out. I have been slowly consolidating all my battery stuff to Milwaukee M18. I bought this in a kit with a charger and two 5ah batteries. So, now I have 2 chargers and enough batteries to keep me working with several tools all day long.

Setting up gears?

I put the pinion in the freezer to get it nice and cold, put the bearing on a hot plate to get it nice and hot, stand the pinion up, drop the bearing on, and hold the bearing down tight with a piece of pipe until it cools off.

I just put the bearing in the oven for the input shaft of my trans, worked great.

Yes, that will be the game plan. But you never know sometimes it doesn't work. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic for 15 years now. Your not wrong but that doesn't always work.

Putting some thing in the freezer has nothing on liquid nitrogen. I don't like to beat things and if I tried to do it without the press my bearings would just get stuck and id mess them up and buying new bearings. Just my luck anyways......

Being that the former threading bar was slightly modified during an abrupt stop against the part in the lathe chuck (long worded way to say it 'crashed') I had to order a new threading bar.

Abrupt stop and lathe are 2 things that usually don’t go good together.

It makes the tool salesman smile!

And the lathe tech service smile too as it caused the spindle drive controller to fail. That was not a good day.
