New tools you've bought recently?

When I was doing the wiring for the shop I did the locate thing strictly to find the phone line as it was the only underground (power WAS overhead, not anymore...) and they didn't do it, conveniently we were using a coworkers subcompact tractor with backhoe... on the side of the house where it would have been we just scraped the top of the wire, didn't cut it or anything, turns out it's about 6" down about 6' from the house... we got lucky that day...

Harbor freight is opening the 18th, less than 1/4 mile from my house. Am I wrong for being so happy about this?
Just be cautious/selective about what you buy at HF. They have good prices but also have some quality issues.

I had been looking for a nice 1/4” ratchet, kinda eyeing the swivel head ones. Also had been hearing a lot of good things about HF’s icon line. Made by one of the top manufacturers in Taiwan, I think the same people that make Tekton and a few other brands.

Stopped at the HF to look at their ratchets.
Was about to leave with the Icon ratchet and noticed the PittsburgPro one looked identical for less then half the price, so I bought both to see if there was difference. $40 for Icon and $15 for PP.

First glance they look identical except the plastic grippy, and the PP has a quick release. The Icon spins more smoothly, the PP has a heavier spring.

Went to go use them to put the carb back on the lawnmower and the PP would not hold any sockets on, the ball does not line up with the detent correctly and the sockets just fall off. I’ll take it to work and see if it works with my proto sockets.

@DILLARD000 ya man, good 4 what they are. I actually have lowes, walmart, autozone, O'Reilly, and advanced auto within 1/2 mile of my house already. Its very convenient. The grocery store is across the road from neighborhood entrance. But its a small, old, and sleepy town.

Didn't buy, but got for free... a waterpump that is intended for panning gold. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. It took me an hour to load it into the back of my truck. Glad I carry lots of straps...

Got myself a little flux core welder. Any suggestions for good videos for where to start? I'm starting from square 0. Got myself all my PPE and I've got a little table coming tomorrow.

I had a couple coupons and a gift card a while back and ended up with one of the regular Icon ratchets. I really liked it, and wound up buying a 1/4” drive one. I also have the full spread of the swivel head Pittsburgh ones and haven’t had any issues with socket fit. Maybe you just got a lemon?

Look up Tim Welds on youtube. He seems to present things well and in a way the average person can understand.
