Hello, new to TRS. New to Ford after 30 year absence. I've got a lot of DIY experience that equates to NADA in the real world. I've assembled Chevrolet, Plymouth and Toyota engines. None have failed (yet). Looking forward to sponging up information on my newest project a 2005 Ford ranger XL. Just a 4 banger but will be my daily for awhile.

Welcome to TRS :)

2.3l Duratec(Mazda L) engine was very reliable, used in Ranger and Mazda B2300s from mid 2001 thru 2011
Obviously there will always be some failures, lol, with any engine, but overall very reliable

Like most newer engines they no longer use "key ways" and woodruff keys for timing gears/chains, they use friction fit so timing the crank/cams(DOHC) can be a pain to get lined up

2005 Rangers do NOT have PATS, one less thing to go wrong, no transponder keys needed
1999 thru 2011 did, 2005 year was skipped over dispute with PATS maker

PAT's? Acronym

I searched "duratec pats", seems to be an anti theft system. RonD is an extremely knowledgeable fella

The transmission might turn that motor straight up and down
Well, maybe that would be the best angle for it I dunno.
Good luck with it :)
