New to the Gen 2 Explorer

If you're in 4x4 for extended periods it can get annoying but the knob is what hits my leg for the most part so not too bad or bad enough I've taken the linkage out and bent it which I'd thought of but meh...

I have long term projects, I'd planned what I wanted to do for the extended radius arms on my '90 for almost 15 years before I did it, I did find the parts I had stashed so that was a plus...

We live at the top of a very steep hill that is nearly impassible in the snow, this Explorer is part of my snow plan for that hill. I may try using a little bit shorter stick than what you have in your picture @scotts90ranger to minimize the leg interference issue, as great majority of the time would be spent in 2WD. I don't mind reaching a little further down if it's more out of the way, it would also make for a little shorter throw to engage too. I'm used to jumping out to engage hubs so it would be a nice change from that practice.

The plan is to try and increase the highway mileage a little bit if possible. A pair of Torque Monster headers are also in the future plans.

In 2wd it doesn't hit my leg at all unless I have the seat really far forward for some strange reason, cutting a couple inches off the stick would be easy though then just thread it or weld a bolt on for an aftermarket shift knob or something... or just take some length out of it, the shifter only moves like 6" from 4x2 to low range so it's not a long throw anyway, if I think of it I'll get some pictures with me sitting normal tonight...

Ok, better late than never hopefully... The pictures are progressive, 4x2, 4x4 hi, 4x4 low then low from the side:

Low is definitely intrusive, would be less bad if the notch in the shift gate it went into was just more toward the passenger side by about 1/2", probably what I'll do when it goes under the knife... In the last pic you can see the rust mark from where the shifter sits in 4x2, apparently my carpet notch is 10x bigger than needed... the mice have done a number on that sock :)

Thanks for those pictures, definitely not too late. Those help a lot!!

I see what you mean, I'd be tempted to shorten the stick to just above the bend once I get that far, maybe even bend it backwards a bit. I'm having no luck so far finding the linkage. The bracket is available again but out of stock where I've looked. Once I know I can shift it I'll start looking for the right drive shafts to make it happen.

P.S. I think that sock has at least another 100k left in it...;)
