Hi folks, I have a '86 reg cab short bed with 347,narrowed frame, coil over ladder bar susp with narrowed 9". Frt susp is stock twin I beams. Looking for any info that might help with my handling problem. Truck is street legal but built for 1/4. Truck rocks side to side at speed and rocking motion gets worse unless I back out of throttle. Thought it was a torque issue as engine is quite stout, but now believe related to speed. Runs along fine at highway speeds but have not been able to make a complete pass at track. Even cross braced frame. Could the problem be the frt end geometry as frt lifts under load?. Any thoughts? Tks

Hi, yes, frame narrowed just behind cab. Was cut and re welded to new boxed crossmember and I X braced with 2x3 boxed back to above axle which ties in to support for coilovers.

I would check and make sure that you have the rear in the truck completely straight. I would measure each side at the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel (axle). do bothe sides and then I would cross measure from the driver front wheel to the pass side rear wheel and then do it the other way to make sure it is all squared up. If it not then I would adjust it to be. Next where do you have your rear shocks mounted? Are they inside the rear frame rails? If so I would move them as far out on each side as you can. A good friend on mine did this on his tubbed car and it helped out a bunch with its handling and ride. Hope this all helps you out.

I figured you were talking about the rear frame after I reread your post.

Dorf, welcome to TRS.

I'd suggest you ask your question in the suspension section of the forum. You're going to get a lot more people there that can help you than you will in the introductions section.

I think it may be in the spring rates or sway bars. I've been mid 11's in my 90 with stock lowered suspension with no problems, other than the floating feeling that slicks give you.

Tks for info, does your 90 Ranger still have twin I beams??
