Hello Everyone,

Will be picking up a 92 Ranger this coming weekend. I got this little truck for my daughter. She loves to fish and ride the jetski so this should fit her personal needs for a couple years.

I need to replace the AC system on the truck and will be doing an R134a system. Will be new compressor,Evap core,Condense,receiver/drier,line set and orifice tube. Previous owner cut the lines and removed compressor when the clutch locked up on compressor so they have been open for several years.

I would like to add a camper shell to the truck. I need to know what the differences of the beds were from the 92 to a 98 bed. I can get an ARE camper top only back to 98 new. In the meantime I am still watching Craigslist etc to see if I can locate 1 for a 92.

My next step is upgrading from 14 rims to 15. Can someone confirm if a 15x7wheel with 215/75R15 will fit the truck or maybe 235/75R15?

92 Ranger XLT Super-cab 3.0 Automatic RWD.

Thanks,

Tim

Welcome to TRS :)

Rangers had 3 generations
1st Gen 1983-1992 smaller size, 1989-1992 got new front clip, Gen 1.5
2nd Gen 1993-1997, 2.5" wider, rounded body
3rd Gen 1998-2011, same size as Gen 2 but different suspension and fuel system

All used the same 6ft beds, regular or extended cab, but 1st gen will be 2.5" narrower
There were Long Bed Rangers, 7ft bed, regular cab only, 7ft bed can't be put on 6ft bed frame

You could probably make it work, a 1993 and up shell, might look a bit funny but its only 1.25" on each side

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the info on the bed. I will just keep a watch for one that will be for proper year for her truck. I may just get a tonneau cover on the bed until I locate 1. That way she will have a place for the fishing gear and or vest spare fuel for ski when she goes out.

And yes, 15 inch wheels will fit as some rangers came with 15s. I have 235/75/15 on mine right now, with factory steel wheels

Welcome to the site.

I'm not trying to be the Ranger Generation police here... but then again maybe I am.

The only thing consistent about the generations is that it's inconsistent depending on where you are when you ask.

As Jim states in this article... generations were based on styling. Interesting read and there is a ton more information in the tech library that you may find helpful.

:stop::nono:👮‍♂️ Totally Ranger Generation Police, next you'll be writing tickets. :icon_rofl:

But it is great reading.

Yes, I always wondered why 1993/4 didn't get separate Gen, oddball years, 1995 and up got the new 104 wire computer EEC-V, which in my opinion was a BIG change, from the 1994 and earlier 60-wire computers

And the dash changed with EEC-V in 1995, which also was the first year with airbags.

When I bought my last new one in January of 1995, I walked the dealer lot looking for the few "square dashes" amongst all of the "round dashes". I didn't want an airbag; I specifically wanted a '94.

That's right, plus Cab fuse box location changed, GEM module added as well, so totally different cab wiring harness in 1995
