ok i know this thing it heavy and the 460 only came with 230 hp and 390 tq.

my dad has a 91 f250 with the same set up. that thing moves. its faster than my 4.0 b2. and its fixed up.

heres what i know. mines has 3.55 gears. his has 4.10s. now is that, that big of a difference.
he has 265 75 16. i have 285 75 16.

i have a thrush welded muffler with the cat still intacked. he has no cat and giant hole in his muffler.

i just did plugs cap rotor coil. coil because the tip was falling off. new pressure regulator. mmo the intake. tires aired up to proper psi. brakes dont drag. new o2. and i know this causes a lot of drag but the previous owner installed a direct mount cooling fan to the water pump pully. i want to put a clutch fan or go electric.

now because his has 4.10s and small tires and weights 400 pounds less says the door tag. his blows mine away.

or am i having performance issues. no codes. starts with a mis that smooths out within a min or 2. checked for vacuum leaks. ran a bottle of b12 cemtool in the gas. im not sure if im having injector issues or not.

i cant seem to fine whats causing this lack of low end power. if someone can shed a little light on this for me i would greatly appreciated it. tia

4.10 vs 3.55 will make a huge difference in acceleration.

If both trucks' engines are running well, have good compression, fuel delivery and timing then the one with the 4.10's will outpace the one with the 3.55's by quite a bit, until running out of gears.

Your tires are also about an inch larger, which makes your gearing even higher.

i like the 4.10s but i want this thing to whoop his ass lmao. what would be a good gear to go with. ill also be towing with this truck.

4.30 and a gear vendor O/D if you have a C6 and plan on running faster then 50mph.

if i go with 4.30 what do you thing my rpms will be at hw speeds. i live in cedar city utah. the hw speed is 80 out here. oh and i have the e4od.

thx for replying

According to a rpm calculator, roughly 2600rpm with stock size tires.

Seems a bit much for sustained operation.

i believe stock tire size is 245 65 16. i have 285 75 16. hopefully itll make a difference in rpm. running around 2300 rpm should be ok.

I figured it with 275/75/16, a 285 wont be enough to make a difference. Youll still be way up in the revs

lol i suppose i dont have to do 80mph i can hang around 70-75. we have a stretch out here that is posted 85 but most people who can do 5 over and do 90.

what do you figure would be best for it. because i plan to haul to at least 29ft camper fully loaded up a 8% grade and at some points greater than that.

im 9200lbs just by itself camper would probably gross around 12-15000lbs. plus i want to light my dads f250 up.

That truck is not 9200 lbs.

The camper i cant say, but i tow a 30 ft with a 97 460 and it weighs 7500lbs give or take, i think youre overshooting the weigbt a bit. A 15000lb camper is going to be way to much for that truck.

Either way, i think your asking alot. The best thing i can tell you is a set of 4.30s, but youre mileage will be mid single digits on the free way loaded, at best.

it reads 9200 on the door tag as the gross vehicle weight. its the crew cab. with the long bed. i suppose i can check the weight at the weight station. even my dads truck says it weights 8800

That’s your gross weight.... your curb weight will be at least 2000 pounds less. My 96 crew cab dually with 2 full tanks of diesel (36g) and a full 60g aux tank in the bed plus tools and 5th wheel hitch tipped the scale at 8000 pounds... and that was with a 10,600 pound GVW.
You have an E4OD which has an overdrive. I would convert to MAF and OBD2... you’ll pick up some free power/torque and have the ability to use better heads, cam, and headers.

The only way to do that is to pull parts/cpu off a 96/97 cali 460 truck.

Personally, if you really feel you need all that power, id look into ripping the motor and dropping in a 514 stroker.

Well here I would just go to a junk yard because I thought all 96 Fords were OBD2.... but there are piggyback kits.... and you have to reppin 3 or 4 wires in your existing harness. I am think Trickflo and AFR also sell kits for this. But Dustin is right, you will need a Cali ECU, but there are several full size ford truck forums that have that part number. But imo, it’s worth it....speed density (which is what you have) is like a smart carburetor, but unlike a carburetor, speed density resists change.... not much you can do with it because it had a very narrow tuning window..... MAF conversion is gives you a wider tuning window and OBD2 opens that window even more. But there are several inexpensive things you can do to wake that engine up. When I get home I will get you some links on suggested tuneup and timing specs.
