Does that come turbocharged?

I know FAR more about radios and coax that you probably ever will if it's taken 39 years and you still haven't figured out that there are infact 100%-shielded cables available (that is, if this is what you're basing your ASSumption on)... Unfortunately this actually has very little to do with why coiling/bundling doesn't affect it, since even the 95%-shielded cables are hardly affected by coiling (and if it was greatly affected, this would be an obvious indication one or both ends of the cable is not properly grounded or terminated... I.E., your antenna mount).
I s'pose you're gonna try to lay the "coax also has to be 18 feet in length" myth on me too, huh?

Have you ever built a working synthesized superheterodyne transceiver completely from scratch? Selected every individual transistor, diode, resistor, capacitor, inductor, etc. for the receive, transmit, and common circuits and soldered them into a board layout that you designed yourself? I have... :icon_idea:

I'm not impressed son, you still don't know what you're talking about.

Every radio, coax, and antenna manufacturer will back up what I'm saying.

Find one that will back up your b.s.

Boys lets try to not let this thread get way out of hand.

Still waiting on my antenna to show up, but either way it may be a while before I get the CB in anyways, I'm going to start my 1st year partsman ticket on Monday:D

Gonna have to call b.s. on you here. Apparently you don't know much about radios or coax. Even good coax still only stops 95% leakage, and if it didn't, then you would have to worry about signal loss.

Been running CB's since 1971, I might know a thing or two.

So you've been runnin CB's since you were 10/11? Gonna have to call b.s. on ya there......i've ALWAYS heard, been told, and have coiled my coax in a figure 8 pattern, in my rigs, our work rigs, our equipment, and it has always worked just fine

I had the Cobra 25 I was using before this tuned for $35. I took it out of the truck and it's been sitting in the garage since...can't get rid of...

Are you looking to buy one or do you already have one?

haha ya i actually have the cobra 25 nw st that i just got for free. sorry

Im glad to know that some other people have/had the 25 though

That's right son. Were you even born then? I still have the license from the F.C.C., along with my Ham operator's license :thefinger:

Do what you want with your junk, but don't try to b.s. someone who knows what he's talking about.

If you coil coax, you create a choke.

Don't spread your ignorance to people looking for good advice.

You aren't old enough to call him son. And after 10+ years of knowing him, I'm going to have to lean his way on this. Cobra's site says you can coil extra wire in 12" coils without harm.

Edit: Also, I don't like the attempts at belittling. That's bullying to me. Don't do that. Junkie is about my age and my father is 65 years old. If you were 65 I might let you call me SON. You wouldn't call me SON to my face in the derogitory manner in which you intend it. And I would never disrespect you.

Lol That's funny right there
For someone that thinks he's high and mighty because he possesses a "ham radio license", you sure don't have a clue.

I s'pose every person who's submitted pics to this page is also spouting off a bunch of ignorant BS too then, huh... Because according to you that can't work or is bad or is whatever, but yet the creating of a choke is precisely what they've done here and have found an actual purpose for it too. Seems the signal within the coax somehow still mysteriously gets right through that coil to & from the antenna with a near-perfect match now doesn't it??? :thefinger:

Another page describing coiling of coax for the same purpose

There's a good reason why people like myself (those in their 40s and younger) have lost all interest in ham radio, which is what's ultimately leading to it's demise. When all you dudes finally turn into "silent keys", the FCC can then come and reclaim the rest of the bands due to lack of use and then sell them off to the giants in the telecommunications industry for profit like they've already done in the past.

Long live Citizens Band radio!:headbang:

LMAO :icon_rofl:
No, no turbocharger, just a big tall antenna (that also happens to have a coil in the coax too lol).

Thanks man

Mountain Mike, sorry about your thread here, but when BS flies like this, I just cannot let it go uncorrected. To do so IMO would be a disservice to the community.
Good luck with the antenna. I think you'll be totally fine with that setup

In technical knowledge ALL the CB operators in the world combined still fail to equal one not particularly bright amateur radio operator.

WE actually had to study and take tests to get our licenses.
all the typical CBer needed to do was show up at a truck stop
or Radio Shack with $100...

Rather like someone looking for a "lot lizard" come to think of it.

Coiling Coax doesn't hurt a thing... except leave extra coax you don't need
inserted between the transmitter and the antenna.

If it does hurt the proper place to coil that particular piece of coax is in the borttom of the first garbage can within reach.

And though the line loss at 26-27MHz is "low" with any decently made coax
it's still loss.

and with ONLY 5w you need ALL of what little signal you've got
to get out.... rather than making a coil of coax slightly warmer.

Now balanced against all that, there's the all too likely possibility that if the cable isn't terminated correctly, rather likely with the POS we all know as a PL259 or it's historically ironic name of "UHF connector" (bear in mind in the 1940's 30MHz was "UHF")
which are by anyones account a cast iron BITCH to solder correctly...

You could wind up FAR worse off by shortening and reterminating
that "too long" length of coax...

Frankly I haven't soldered a PL259 since the early 90's
I use adapters from BNC to UHF or "N" to UHF because those are the ends
I put on all my Coax and I take the penalty of "insertion loss" as preferable
to melting the dielectric in the coax trying to solder a damned PL259 onto the coax.

If this seems a bit Bi-polar in the conclusions get over it.

There are two sides to this arguement and what makes one way better than
the other depends on facts neither side has brought up.

not the least of which is soldering skill.

wow I clicked on this to see what advise this guy was getting and al i have really seen is fighting and argueing.......I dont think I will even bother to read all of it.

What fighting? This has been totally informative.

Late update, this CB rig is going in the 93. Mounting my antenna to the hoop. Still waiting for it to arrive though. I accidentally ordered white duals instead of the single black one I wanted.

anything wrong with a handheld cb radio?
