...yes, i know there is a tire/wheel section, but thought i might get more veiws/opinions here, im considering going to a different tire/wheel this spring, wanting the wheels to be the black "D" window rims, 8" with 4" backspacing. (so the load will be centered on the bearings, not offset) tire size im considering is either 255/70's or 31-10.50's. stock is 235/75. the 255's would be the same height, just a inch wider, the 31's would be both a little taller and wider than stock. would i lose much in performance/milage with either size change? is the 4" backspacing going to work as far as clearances when turning? (stock height, no lift) my truck is a '93 4x4 supercab, plenty of wheel-well room as far as the eye can see, 265's were a option. i have 3.73 gears. i mostly run empty but do sometimes pull a 6x10 enclosed v-nose trailer. id love to run classic cragar s/s mags, but it would look odd leaving the front centers off for the lockout hubs.
heres the rims im considering: -> http://www.summitracing.com/parts/clm-7015812/overview/

I run 31x10.5r15 on some heavy aluminum rims. The tires are 6 ply I also have 3.73 gears and 4.0. I can roast them in 2nd on a corner and my 4.0 has 300k+ miles on it. And I got 21 MPG last month on the highway. Its plenty quick.

Those are sick rims! I wouldn't mind those in a 10 wide for my big boys... Priced right too! As far as clearances go I would say yes... But wouldn't be surprised to be corrected. You will be fine with power as well, not much of a difference plus it will help on cruzing

I have a 4.0 with 3.73s and 31x10.5x15 tires. On the gearing chart that puts me at the border of best all around and best mileage. I mostly run empty but pull what I want when I want with no trouble. No clearance issues. Rims are 15x7 black D windows frm American Racing. I forget the offset. I think what you're looking at would be a good setup for you.
