how do i put a tach in my 93 ranger 2.3 5 sp manual with no stock tach it has coil packs not distibutor

the easiest and cleanest way is to swap instrument clusters from a '93 or '94 ranger or explorer with a tach, i believe all explorers have a tach so they are easy to find... it doesn't matter what engine the donor has. you can swap your original speedo into the donor cluster to keep the miles the same

you can also get an aftermarket one and put it on. they give you instructions, just tap the coil ground for your signal wire.

HOLD ON. Before you go swaping instrument clusters. The wiring is different from each model. I found this out the hard way. To swap an instrument cluster, find a donor or junked vehicle that is the same to your vehicle that you swapping in to. Same engine size (V6 or I4), same style dash cluster, same model, and maybe the year (different years have sometimes different style of idoit lights. Don't know about the wiring).

in the '89-94's the only difference in the wiring is the change they made in mid '92, I have a cluster from a v6 in my truck...

i put a sunpro tach in my 97 back when it had the 2.3. i just spliced into the ground on the coil. u just gotta make sure you set the tach right. i think i had to set it to a v8. im not 100% sure but i remember something about it having the 8 plugs and wires that made it a little wierd to install. it looked pretty sweet in that little cirlce vent on top of the dash, i even put a green bulb in it to mach the cluster lights.

You know, theres a tach signal wire right next to the main fuse box under the hood. Its just a lonely single green wire with nothing pulled into it. Thats what I tapped for my Sunpro tach to make it work. And put the setting to 4cyl.

yeah, '89-91 should work.

my '90 was made in november of '89 which makes a few things kind of interesting... had '90 chassis wiring and '89 engine wiring
