whats the X-max on that thing? from the video it looks like she's bumpin out pretty good. Does the surround hit the seat during full excursion?

20mm xmax. it comes close to the seat but doesnt quite hit it. With the tilt of the box it comes within about 1/4 inch of the seat.

looks like its reaching full excursion. do you have your gains set correctly?

yeah. I started with it all the way down and slowly turned it up to where the sub is right below max at 100% volume. I only run it at a max of about 80-85% volume when I want it loud.

what kind of meter would one use? I have been out of country for over 2 years other than a 2 week visit over 6 months ago. Its not hitting its xmax and I have it running below its RMS and max ratings at all times. if I screw it up by not knowing everything then hey, I will use some of my iraq money and replace the speaker and learn from my mistakes.

you can set it using a digital multimeter. unless you happen to know someone with a o-scope that can set it dead on. from that vid it definitly appears to be clipping. it doesnt matter if its not recieving full power or not. heres how i learned how to set my gains:

most people dont know, but when you use any type of bass boost or loud settings, you boosting the amps signal. whether its your decks amp or an aftermarket amp. a 500w amp can put out more than that, but the manufacturer markets 500w of clean power. so if you dont set the gains properly, you might be getting 700w of clipped and distorted power. it will shorten the life of your equipment. hope this helps.

Ok. I had never heard of doing it that way. now my question is, is it 40v for any amp or does it vary from amp to amp, and if so where do I find this info?

theres a formula to find the correct voltage for your setup.

its squareroot(watts x ohms)

so if you want to run your amp at 2 ohms and your amps rating at 2 ohms is 600. then it would be 2x600=1200. then youd find the squareroot of 1200. whish would be 34.6.

you can download test tones here.

^^get the 0db ones on the right

cool thanks. No one had ever said there was a specific way to set an amp to me, but this is also the first time my stereo hasnt come from walmart.

oh yeah, very nice. Alpine iDAx100 head unit, alpine type r compenents in te kicks panels being powered off a 400w memphis 2 channel, alpine type r coaxials in the doors( the stock speakers did not get along with the higher powered head unit) and the sub running on a memphis prd1000.1 amp. very nice upgrade. I know the box could be better, but I designed it myself and it sounds pretty good and is actually tuned so im gonna stick with it.
