Hello, I want to put a newer style starter in my truck, but there is a smaller wire, maybe 14-16 gauge coming from the starter. What would this need to be hooked to or does it need to be hooked up at all? Thanks in advance for any replies. I've learned a ton on this board already. :icon_thumby:

I think that is a wire from the clutch pedal (if yours is manual) to make sure it the clutch is disengaged before the engine can start. If yours is automatic it would be to make sure engine is in Park or Neutral before you can start.

im not %100 sure but i think on a 88 the starter is on the passenger side and on newer rangers the starters on the drivers but maybe its just 2.3s are on the passenger and 2.9s are on the drivers
