Bought new spark plugs, but the thread length is longer on the new ones. Everywhere I look says they're compatible though. Should I be worried? The new ones are Champion 408's and the old are Autolite 765's.

The lower length looks the same, obviously the thread length is different, that has more to do with the heat range of the spark plug, but technologies change.
Heat range is the amount of heat retained in a spark plug, the longer the threads the more surface area it has to dissipate heat
Ford spec for 2.9l is Motorcraft AWSF-42C
This is a cross-reference for that plug number:

I can't see full number on new plug but looks like a Champion number, so should be Champion RS12YC , yours looks like RS14YC
In Champion numbering the 12 and 14 are heat ranges, the 2 difference isn't much so they should be fine to use
