My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.
Well I haven't been posting much or at all since around March. I am pretty much done with my shop. Here are a few pics.

FlameBlock, Is Fire Retardant OSB?

It looked like dry wall at first, seemed like a bad Idea for a shop.

Two Bays wide, two bays deep?

Looks sweet.

Excellent! Great reason for being too busy to hang out here. Those are the same kind of trusses I bought for the shop I was building.

Yes the flameblock is osb. Lowes and home depot want 18 dollars a sheet right now for regular osb. I bought this new from a local discount building supply for 7 dollars a sheet.
The shop is 30x40. 10ft roll up doors. Allows me to work on separate projects simultaneously. I centered my walk in door and painted a line down the center of it so I can guide my vehicles on the lift easier.

I have swapped motors, transmission's, etc in the dirt all my life. This is an absolute blessing to have this shop now. 30ft pole barn trusses that I lbolted to the walls with 5/8x6" lags. 16ft peak ceilings so all the heat stays up top. 110 degree heat index and all I run is my 42" fan. I don't even sweat.

I'll some more pics up later after I get home. This pic was getting close to having the outside completed.

Keeping the heat up top is great until it's -10 outside and you are laying on the ground. Ask me how I know.

Propane heaters only can do so much when the garage is two stories, and nothing in between the first and second floor.

Although I don't know how cold it gets in Mississippi.

It was 70 on Christmas morning here last year. LOL. We get 2-3 days max of 35 degree morning temps. Usually around 55-60 during the day.

Awesome... Looks like you have a commercial sized beer cooler too... lol

Yup. The three stainless items are all refrigerators that went out and I got for shop use. I'll get some better pictures of them and show how I utilized them.

Congrats!

I just about have the roof on mine, I'm looking forward to having mine done...

Thanks. It's nice being able to actually roll stuff around on the floor lol.

Nice! I built the same size shop 4 years ago, I did a LOT of wrenching in the dirt for way too long. I am spoiled now.

It's funny how fast it fills up. I thought 1200 sq/ft would be plenty but I run into space issues... doesn't help that I have four vehicles parked inside. I wish I would have gone with higher side walls like you did, I did 10' walls on mine and 8' doors. A lift would be nice.

Eh, it would stop all the snow and wind and that would be doing better than my "shop"

Looks to have a smooth floor so you could even use one of those fancy creepers with wheels. :icon_thumby:

I want to put a door in the back of mine for nothing other than crossflow ventilation. I can have a nice breeze outside and even with the big door open it is dead calm/stagnant inside.

Yes it will fill up fast but that's just part of it. I went with 12 ft walls because originally I was going to run 30' 2x4 trusses on top of them. I bought the pole barn trusses and ran all the 2x6 purlins for a little over half of what the standard trusses would have cost. Plus I knew I needed at least 12ft in the center of the shop to install the lift.

The smooth floor is the best thinkg I could have done. I had it whirly birded just enough not to bust your ass when something gets wet. I can just sweep and blow the floor off which is nice.Nothing gets stuck in crevices. Anything with casters will roll for feet at a time when pushed hard enough. I have 2 36x80 walk in doors just for ventilation.

I am so jealous! The ex-wife said I didn't need a shop and never liked my custom car & truck. I kept the car and truck, ha!
