Help Please. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger that I am replacing the clutch system in. I pullled the 4x4 transefer case out and I ordered a new electronic shift motor for it while I have things apart. I received the Dorman 607-800 shift motor today and the plug end on the new one does not have the gray wire coming out of it. here is a picture of the gray wire on the old motor still on the transefer case...WHAT DOES THAT WIRE DO? As you can see it goes into the case just behind the driveshaft hub. thanks for any insight and help. Should I send the new motor back and ask for one with that wire?
Can I do away with it?

That wire is critical. It powers a magnetic clutch inside the transfer case that spins up the front drive before attempting the engagement. The computer won't attempt to move the motor before the clutch engages. The reason the new one doesn't have that wire is because it goes into the transfer case and can't be disconnected. You have to unpin the wire from the old plug and move it to the new one.
