Looking at my spare,(Ranger 06) if I want to mount my 2019 spare tire Goodyear UltraGrip Winter Rotation > as a road tire, it would seem the rotation only allows for a front and back passenger side installation. It would seem that to match the same tire on the drivers side, it would only work for that side designed rotation when reversed on the rim.

Any way to get around this problem.? Thanks

Probably wouldn't hurt much to run it backwards in an emergency to get you to a tire shop though.

Directional ag traction tires are mounted "backwards" when used on non-powered applications.

I was going to suggest 3 piece bbs wheel - assemble and inflate as required.

I agree, as a spare probably no issue running backwards 'til you get regular tire replaced - just treat it like you had a compact spare on - drive slower, less weight, etc

It's not dangerous to run a directional tire backwards, it just wears the treads faster, and maybe makes some extra noise.

The "work around" is to not own directional tires.

Thanks all!

That leaves balancing the wheel after reverse installing the tire on the steel rim. The valve would remain on the outside. Most of the sidewall info would be on the inside face, like the whitewall tires you found on cars of the 40 - 50's. The concern I would see in this switch is if Goodyear made a non symmetrical change in the outer tread(not visible on the outside) to help prevent cornering wear on the lug portion, or for whatever reason.

Looks like I'm going to try it. No heavy loads or towing anymore for this fogey.

Carry two spares, one for the left side and one for the right. :icon_rofl:

I’m sure directional tires make sense to someone. Me being a big believer in 5-tire rotations, directional make no sense what so ever.

Bear in mind, this belief comes from years of operating vehicles that are sensitive to wear differences between tires like my AWD Honda CR-Vs. Not rotating all 5 tires will eventually cost you a $3,000 differential. It’s cheaper to rotate the tires.

If you have limited slip, the same concern applies.
