alright, i am looking at getting a new ranger eventually (in a couple years; maybe one) and i wanna know what you all think.

I have decided that a V6 is my only engine option, and a manual transmission. I also need the super cab as well. this is what i have whittled my selection down to, and i need peoples' opinions on what to consider:

1st - 4x4 FX4 with the offroad package; i like the idea of 4x4 for snow commuting and weekend warrior. I can't justify the added price though...although the shifter for the manual tranny is pretty slick!

2nd - 4x4 Sport; this is the one i am leaning to. I will get it with p/w and p/l; doesn't come with some of the goodies the FX4 does

3rd - Sport; 2wd is what i am used to; less money, less weight, less headache for repairs, but no weekend getaways off road.

let me know what you folks think!

If I were you, I would go to my local Ford dealership and test drive different models, let them know what you're looking for. Them suckers are always trying to make a sale :icon_thumby:

The FX4's are pretty sweet. They already come with 8.8 31 spline rear, so you should never really have to worry about snapping an axle if you do decide to offroad. And the 4.0L is plenty of power, no need to swap in a 302 or anything larger. Then again, the sports are also nice, a much nicer price than the FX4. How new are you thinking of going?

+1 to what Tom said. I'm sure you can talk dealerships down a ton at the current economic state.

lol i work at a dealer; we are giving vehicles away like hot cakes...i think in two years or less i'll be getting one..i have driven (test drove) a few of each, but just wanted to know, from owners, what each are like. i am leaning towards 4x4 but have to decide if i really want the goodies :dunno:
